Beatenberg

Welcome to Beatenberg – located in the Bernese Oberland, at the heart of Switzerland. High above lake Thun, 1,200 m above sea level, Beatenberg resides at a priviliged place in front of the scenery of the Bernese alps.

Experience the mindbreathing view to the mountain panorama of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Take a look down to lake Thun, with its turquoise gleaming in the sunlight.

At Beatenbergs landmark mountain – the Niederhorn – at 1,950 m still there are ibex, chamois and marmots at home. In winter time you will find there – conveniently reachable by cable car – a panorama skiing area with 5 runs, graded from easy to moderately difficult, that extends down to mid-station Vorsass at 1,850 m.

History

After a long time of seclusion, Beatenberg changed to a famous health resort during the Belle Époque at the turn of the last century.

During this thriving period, where the gentry engaged in traveling the world, sovereigns and emperors appreciated the unique and distinctive beauty of this mountain village.

Some of the most famous visitors of Beatenberg are the later German emperor Friedrich III, queen Wilhelmine of the Netherlands, prince Gustav of Sweden, the wife of the Russian czar Maria Feodorowa, or the famous revolutionist Wladimir Iljitsch Lenin. The painter Paul Klee spent several weeks at the beauty Beatenberg as well.
